5 Colors that Affect Your Space and Mood

Have you ever walked into a room and felt a shift in your mood? A feeling of joy, of peace, or maybe even irritation. There is a whole world of psychology behind the colors you see and how they affect your mood. When it comes to your home, you have the power to create the atmosphere that you want and there’s nothing better than a freshly painted room. The options of paint colors we use from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore are endless; but here are some examples of which colors make you feel some type of way!

Yellow

Being associated with the sun, it stands for optimism, joy, enlightenment. It’s known to cheer you up and is a great color for a more adolescent space, however we can all use a little more sunshine in the Pacific Northwest!

Red

Red attracts the most attention and is associated with strong emotions, such as love, passion, and anger. It's the universal color to signify strength, power, courage, and danger. Red is also known to increase appetite so maybe don't use it in your kitchen or you’ll be stuck there forever!

Blue

Blue is known to promote calmness and tranquility. Although we don’t see many people adding blue to their homes these days, there are some gorgeous shades of blue. A great shade of blue is Moonmist (SW 9144) by Sherwin Williams, that tone will give you a “head stuck in the clouds' ' feel.

Green

The color green pulls us into nature, freshness and purity. This is a great color to use in an office as it tends to make us feel refreshed ( I’m talking to you remote workers). There is nothing like stepping outside for a breath of fresh air after staring at a screen all day, and green might just be your go-to.

White

Although colors are fun, let’s be honest here, white takes the cake. White creates a feeling of cleanliness and simplicity, which many people want in a home. One of the most popular home colors these days is Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. With white walls, you can purchase that green velvet couch you’ve been eyeing and not worry about colors clashing. It is certainly a lot easier to decorate your home with fun colors when your walls are a simple white.

Don’t limit your imagination! After all, your home is for you and your family.
